Browns bench Johnny Manziel for party video, name Josh McCown starter

Browns coach Mike Pettine announced Tuesday that Manziel's role as the starting quarterback would go to Josh McCown after a video surfaced of the formerHeisman Trophy winner partying, allegedly during the team's bye week.Manziel was demoted to third-string, with Austin Davis serving as McCown's backup. The Browns next play the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night.“Everyone in this organization wants what is best for Johnny just like we do for every player in our locker room," Pettine said in a statement posted to the team's website.
"I’m especially disappointed in his actions and behavior because he has been working very hard."The improvements from last year to this year have been tremendous but he still has to consistently demonstrate that he has gained a good understanding of what it takes to be successful at the quarterback position on this level. It goes well beyond the field. We are going to continue to support him in every way possible, but at this point, we’ve decided it’s best to go with Josh as the starter going forward.”Manziel had been tapped as the Browns starter for the duration of the season last Tuesday after the second-year pro passed for a career-high 327 yards in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 22. The decision was made during the 2-8 Browns’ bye week.
